Hours after comedian Amy Schumer revealed that she had changed her 11-month-old son Gene’s name, she and her husband, Chris Fischer, joked about the hilarious circumstances surrounding their decision. Earlier this week, Schumer revealed that she changed her son’s name from Gene Attell Fisher to Gene David Fisher because the original choice just didn’t sound right.

“Oh, like you never named your kid Genital fissure!!!!!!!” wrote the 38-year-old in the caption of a pic that featured the Trainwreck star with her husband.

Schumer opened up about the name change during an episode of her podcast Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith. She said that her baby’s name was officially changed after they realized they had accidentally named their son “genital.”

Her podcast guest Claudio O’Doherty added: “My mom pointed that out to me actually. My mom was like, ‘Amy’s called her son “genital.”’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And then, she was right.”

Schumer and Fischer chose the middle name Attell to honor her good friend and fellow comedian, Dave Attell. They revealed the name after Gene’s birth on May 5, 2019. Now that they have changed the middle name from Attell to David, Schumer says that she and Fischer have hit “two stones” because the name references both her friend, Dave Attell, and her father, Gordon David Schumer.

Schumer and Fischer have been self-isolating at home with Gene during the COVID-19 lockdown, and she recently posted a video on Instagram that featured the new parents showing baby Gene his first movie. The couple chose Wes Anderson’s 2009 fantasy Fantastic Mr. Fox, which starred George Clooney and Meryl Streep.

Gene is also learning to walk, and he joined his mom recently to visit his grandpa while practicing social distancing. Amy Schumer held Gene while standing in the street with a sign that read: “Hi Grandpa, We love you!” as Schumer’s dad looked out the window.
